Vacant home after rehabilitation on Blair AvenueGreater Frogtown >> housing >> housing development

Greater Frogtown repairs and builds homes in our neighborhoods. Restoring our great homes, and building new homes on vacant land, adds value to our communities.

Vacant home rehabilitation. Unfortunately, many homes in our neighborhoods have been registered as vacant. This can happen for many reasons, such as a mortgage foreclosure or abandonment by a landlord. Whatever the cause, getting homes repaired for new residents is a key element to a healthy community. Greater Frogtown CDC uses funds provided by government and nonprofit resources to repair and then sell homes. One such program, Minnesota Urban Homesteaders, allows the new residents to purchase the home on contract for deed, meaning the buyer does not need to get a regular commercial loan, but can move into their home while getting ready to get a regular mortgage.

New home construction. Even in times when there are vacant homes on the market, building a new home on a key vacant lot can help tie a neighborhood back together, increasing the value and appearence of other homes nearby, and helping to restore confidence on streets where housing demolition can detract from efforts in the community. With the support of key partners, Greater Frogtown CDC has been able to build over forty new homes in our community.

Assistance buying your new home. While Greater Frogtown does not provide first-mortgages directly, we do work with other government and nonprofit groups to help you find the right solution to buying your home in one of our neighborhoods. The City Living program of the City of Saint Paul is one such resource for many people considering buying a home in our area. Contact us to learn more.
